Lug-Tread Ale – Beau’s All-Natural Brewing Co.

First off, some background reading:  if you haven’t been following this blog long, you might not know it, but I have what is approaching an unhealthy adoration for Beau’s.  Need proof?  “Why I love” Beau’s #1 and Beau’s #2.

So today we’re drinking Beau’s Lug-Tread Ale, which is a Kölsch.  Don’t know what a Kölsch is?  Check out my post on Gaffel, which is a German Kölsch, from Köln, Germany.

Lastly, today is a fun one (okay, it happened a few days ago; the beauty of scheduling posts in WordPress, but whatever).  Me and my dearest friend Andrew are doing the post together.  Andrew is a Harp-drinking Belfast boy, but he’s not afraid of drinking different beers.

Let’s do this!

Poured from a sexy 600ml bottle with a “packaged on” date and a batch number on the back, the beer has a nice clear golden yellow colour with active bubbles.  Small head dissipates, but leaves a good ring.
Aroma is grainy malt with a nice touch of a leafy/floral hop.  Maybe a hint of hay or grass.  Taste is still very malty, but with more hop, definite srtaw and leafy taste and a nice quick finish.  I don’t know what it is, but Kölsch always has a bit of a mineral taste/feel to it, and Beau’s is no exception.  Mouthfeel is great, with very small carbonated bubbles, but good body to the beer.  It is crazy drinkable.  Like, I think we’ll probably have another.

Andrew

The beer is yellow.  It doesn’t taste anywhere near as strong as you would think based on smell.  Earthy.  I like it.  Not really a “with a meal” beer or a “session beer”.

Chris

Very thorough, thanks Andy.

Conclusion

We both liked the beer, and did drink more of it, both in bottles at home and on tap at Castro’s.  You should drink it too.
