London Porter – Fuller’s

If you aren’t familiar with the Fuller’s brand, you owe it to yourself to get to know them a bit better.  I’ve had three Fuller’s beers on my Cellar List for over a month now, not because I was taking my time reviewing them, but because I kept drinking them and not doing a review of them.  So this is only my first after a good number of Fuller’s brews.  And I’m excited.  ESB and Pride are coming, I promise.

London Porter - Fuller's

From a  500ml tallboy with a best before date on the bottom, the beer is very dark brown, nearly opaque.  Shows some brown and red tones.  Decent head that lasted about half the pint, and left a bit of lacing.  Aroma is brown sugar and chocolate, though it’s hard to get through the ample head.  Taste is more like burnt sugar and molasses and leather.  Chocolate is present as more of a cocoa dryness and a lingering powdery dry finish.  Very smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation and an almost slick feeling on the tongue.  As the beer is warming more of the burnt sugar and sweetness is coming out, though there is still that lovely cocoa dry finish.  A very good beer.  I don’t know of a Fuller’s product I don’t like.  This is an evening with a book kind of beer.  A few of these in the fridge and maybe a Harry Potter and a comfy couch would be stellar.
