Hopfen Weisse – Schneider Weisse

So this is an exciting brew, to say the least!  The brewers from Brooklyn Brewery and Schneider Weisse decided to hook-up, and produce a love child.  And here it is: A dry-hopped, boozy wheat beer.  Considering I have good feelings towards both brewers, I can only imagine I’ll like their offspring.

From a 500ml bottle with some type of freshness date on the label, the beer is orangey-yellow and opaque. Modest head disipated to a good film that leaves a bit of lace. I was surprised to note how little head, relatively speaking, this wheat beer had.  Aroma is a huge dose of hops, citrus peel and a bit of Ginger, with some spiciness, not so much clove, but maybe anise. Taste is immediately weisse, cloves, white pepper and that hint of anise and banana but with a sharp citrusy hop as well. The beer is very bitter, I think, but the complexity of the beer carries it well. Its very pleasant in the mouth, lightly carbonated with a smooth medium body. Very refreshing, yet the complexity and bitterness probably disqualifies this as a session beer for the average drinker. Definitely an unusual brew, and one that I could drink a whole lot of , (I’m anything but average).  Prost Schneider und Brooklyner!

Chris SchryerI regularly describe myself as an "ardent supporter of beer", which pretty well sums it up. While I'm not working or busy being a husband and dad (okay, honestly, sometimes while I'm doing those things), I am drinking beer, attending events, visiting pubs, and thinking about beer. I work at Castro's Lounge, my local bar in the Beach, where I host beer events and take part in most things beer-related.
