Brewer’s Plate Toronto 2011

Brewer's Plate LogoGet ready, this is going to be crazy. Want to drink excellent beers, eat amazing food and support a good cause all at once?  It’s easier than you think. The Brewer’s Plate has got you covered.

On April 6th, Brewer’s Plate Toronto is bringing together an elite list of brewers, chefs and artisanal food producers in a night of eating and drinking, all in support of Not Far From The Tree, a charity I really dig (there’s a funny joke there, get it? No? You will in a minute).

Chefs participating include Jamie Kennedy, Brad Long, Lora Kirk, Michael Steh, Mark Cutrara, Marc Breton and Tawfiq Shehata.  Serious.  It gets better. Brewers who will be pouring their wares: Denison’s, Beau’s, Black Oak, Cameron’s, Flying Monkey’s, Great Lakes, Mill St, Nicklebrook, Scotch-Irish, Steam Whistle, StoneHammer, Wellington and Grand River.  Serious.  Told you so.  Can I just stop typing now and go make dinner?

No, I should probably tell you about the charity.

Not Far From the Tree is a group that organizes volunteers to gather produce from gardens across the city. If a landowner is unable to tend their gardens (for reasons of health, time, whatever), they can join Not Far From the Tree. They coordinate volunteers who tend to the garden, then split the harvest, 1/3 to the landowner, 1/3 to the volunteer, and 1/3 to local food banks.  Absolutely brilliant. As a gardener, local food enthusiast and supporter of services like food banks, this charity is nearly custom designed for me to support.
